White County was created on October 23, 1835 and was formed from Pulaski County, Jackson County and Independence County. Parts of White County was used to form the following counties: Cleburne 1883. Other county boundry changes occured when Line with Pulaski changed 3 February 1843, part of Conway annexed 11 January 1853, line with Prairie defined 17 April 1873. This particular county was named in honor of Hugh L. White (1773–1840), U.S. Senator from Tennessee and U.S. presidential candidate in 1836 for the Whig Party.
